Cathy Pinsky

Admittedly, it was the magic of the darkroom that first drew Cathy to photography. She soon discovered that her love of art, math and science were beautifully combined in a medium that allowed for limitless exploration.

After graduating with a BFA from the University of Michigan, Cathy moved to NYC where she worked in a variety of photographic positions. Starting as a darkroom technician, Cathy went on to work as trade show photographer and then for a high-end still life advertising photographer before landing in the fashion world. Cathy founded the digital photography department within Image Info Inc, a software company that serviced the fashion industry. She was the first digital photographer on the runways of NYC, and led a team that went on to do work for clients such as Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Nicole Miller and Hugo Boss, and all right before the internet boom. Image Info was poised to take on work for the all the brick and mortar stores that now wanted to sell their goods on the new, world wide web. Cathy was made a partner and her photography department exploded.

After 5 years of hustling and at the height of the internet boom, Image Info was sold to a strategically aligned organization. The timing coincided with the birth of Cathy's first child, allowing her to bow out of her former 18-hour-a-day grind, and move to Westchester, where she could still consult for them a bit while gracefully switching gears.

A year later, Cathy opened Pinsky Studio, with a focus on families. She joined a variety of organizations, such as the Business Council of Westchester, BNI and Professional Women of Westchester, and watched her business grew exponentially. She became a regular contributor to Westchester Magazine and for over 5 years was the photographer assigned to their monthly restaurant review. During that time a friend of a friend introduced Cathy to Nina Kruse, and in 2013 Nina joined Pinsky Studio.

Family photography work has led to business photography work, and vice versa. Whether it was the mom at her family's photo session asking for an executive headshot, or the art director at a product shoot asking for a Bar Mitzvah quote, servicing both families and businesses has always gone hand in hand for Pinsky Studio. And Cathy wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. She has loved working in and around Westchester County for 20+ years and although you can still find Cathy holding a camera, these days it’s Nina that tends to take on the lead photographer role for Pinsky Studio.
